Whether you drive a beat up, old car that people can’t believe is still running or the nicest sports car fresh off the market, you need a security system for your vehicle. Car thieves are sometimes looking for just tires – that puts every vehicle at risk. Other thieves are looking for sounds systems, purses or money hidden in your car, or the entire vehicle. Most cars now include CD players and many of us get lazy and leave wallets in the car as we quickly run into a store. Car alarms and security measures are necessary and beneficial for everyone.
One obvious benefit of car alarms is discouraging thieves. Every 27 seconds, a car is stolen. After the next 27 seconds, will your car still be where you parked it? Most vehicle thefts occur in urban areas. Ironic, isn’t it? You’re car could be stolen in a populated area where people are most likely strolling by. The South has a 35% rate, the West is at 30%, Midwest at 20% and the Northeastern states have a 14% rate of vehicle theft. You might think your car is safe in the garage; no burglar would steal your car right outside your home. However 35% of cars are stolen out of garages. 22% are taken from parking lots and 18% from roads or alleys. You can avoid being one of these percentages by installing a car alarm and using security methods such as steering wheel locks, kill switches, and GPS tracking systems.
If you have a car alarm and a thief tries to break into your car, the sounding alarm my scare away the thief. In the event that it doesn’t, a person within earshot will be alerted and will hopefully call the police. Visible security measures like steering wheel locks will frustrate robbers and they may decide to leave your car entirely alone. You can also use a wireless car alarm system. A wireless car alarm sends information directly to your mobile phone. When your car door is opened or a window is shattered, an alert is sent to your phone. You can then cut the gas or electricity from reaching the engine, thereby preventing a burglar from starting the car. All of these measures will help keep your car and whatever is inside safe and protected.
Another benefit of having a car alarm is insurance discounts. For those who install car alarms or use methods such as steering wheel locks, Allstate offers a 5% discount off comprehensive coverage. State Farm also offers discounts from 2% to 10%. You can also receive discounts by installing tracking devices such as LoJack. For those who install LoJack, State Farm gives a 10% discount. However, if you install a LoJack and use other security methods such as a steering wheel lock, drivers can receive as much as a 30% discount from State Farm.
Security systems are all around beneficial. They can save you money with your insurance company, protect your car (maybe even save your car), and offer you peace of mind. Don’t become one of the statistics. Install a security system for your car.
