When you have to go grocery shopping, your kid might refuse to go. Anytime you leave your teenager or kid home alone, be sure they know how to set the security system, call for help, and know the basic rules of not answering the door for strangers.

While you’re gone running errands or working, always be reachable for your teenager or child. Make sure they know your work number, cell number, or the number of a neighbor incase you’re not able to answer.

Teach your child about fire safety. Make sure your child knows what to do when the fire alarm goes off. Never leave matches or lighters within reach of children. Studies show that two out of three fires started by children are started with matches or lighters.

Home security extends to the computer. Any computer connected to the internet can be targeted by hackers. Don’t store important information on your computer. Talk to your kids about the danger of chat rooms; make sure your kids know that they should not share important information via the internet. There are also parental locks to keep your teenager or child from looking at sites you don’t approve of.

To keep your teenager or child safe, know your kid’s friends. If your child is unsupervised while at a friend’s home, encourage your kid to bring friends to your home instead.

When your teenager starts driving, safety for your kid becomes even harder. One way to keep your teenager safe is securing your garage. You want your teen to be safe when they pull into the garage at night.

Keep your children safe whether you’re out getting groceries or your teenager is pulling into the driveway late at night.
